Porsche 996 and 997 Turbo GT2 Slave conversion Kit

What is a GT2 Slave conversion kit?

The GT2 Slave conversion kit is:

  • GT2 Master Cylinder (oem)
  • GT2 Slave Cylinder (oem)
  • GT2 clutch hose (oem) from body to slave cylinder
  • GT2 clutch hose Union (oem) to properly couple the hose to chassis line
  • GT2 Throw out fork

When your factory power assist clutch is failing, or you simply want a better pedal feel, the 996 and 997 Turbo GT2 Slave conversion Kit is a great way to fix both issues at once!

Why not use aftermarket kits?

There’s quite a few reasons to use all oem parts here.  Reliability is definitely up there on the list.  There are aftermarket kits partially changing parts out where some require DOT4 fluid and others Pentosin causing premature failure in some of these parts.  Other kits are using non oem sizing on the pistons for the slave which can cause over extension on the throw of the pressure plate, or lack of throw and a clutch that’s not releasing properly.  Too large of a slave and your pedal is very stiff as well.  Although the aftermarket kits may be simple to install and don’t require transmisssion removal, they lack in the finesse that the factory parts offer when installed correctly.   After all, you purchased a Porsche and would like it to drive and feel like a Porsche, right?

What clutch fluid will I run in the GT2 Slave Conversion Kit?

This conversion requires a complete swap from Pentosin over to DOT4.  The same fluid that the oem 996 GT2, 997 GT2 and others that used these parts.  The DOT4 fluid is chemically compatible with all of the parts you’ll be replacing as well as the remaining parts in the chassis that you are not.  The clutch reservoir and chassis lines are common between the GT2 parts and 996/997 Turbo parts.  So no worries about existing parts failing due to a fluid change.

Is the GT2 Slave Conversion Kit a bolt-in or does it require machining?

Although the bell housing is the same casting on both the 996 Turbo, 997 Turbo and GT2, they have been machined for a different location for the slave cylinder.    So the casting bosses are there, the flat surface is there, it merely requires the housing to be drilled and tapped for the 8×1.25mm studs and a clearance hole for the slave piston to travel through.  It’s a relatively simple machining job and can be done with hand tools and DIYers.  I see California Motorsports.net offers this service on their website here.

Will the GT2 Slave conversion kit work with the Protomotive Dual Disc clutch?

Absolutely!   And it probably feels the best of any of the master/slave conversions out there.  It provides the proper amount of travel and the best pedal feel for a factory like high horsepower clutch setup.

Are there any other modifications required to install the 996 and 997 Turbo GT2 Slave conversion Kit?

The factory hydraulic hoses from the clutch / power steering reservoir are no longer required and can be removed and plugged.  The reservoir and pump can also be upgraded or changed out to a GT2 or tiptronic unit as they’re the same.   You can also pull the oem clutch assist / power steering pump apart and remove the splined coupler so the clutch assist pump is no longer pumping fluid.  along with this the pressure and return holes can simply be plugged.
