Stage 1 964 plus intercooler install directions

Protomotive Porsche 964 Turbo System Stage1 bolt-on

Install the side tin and lower valve cover from the turbo kit.

Install replacement fuel injectors.

Remove the plug at the back of the block and replace with the M18x1.5 to 10×1 oem adapter fitting here:

Install the banjo bolt with line.

Crush washers above and below the banjo fitting.

Tighten gently with the hose routing towards the rear / left of the vehicle.  Approx 15nm should be sufficient.

Fuel pressure regulator install:

  • Remove the OEM fpr/hose that routes to the bracket bank 1.
  • Remove the bracket from the crankcase breather plate.
  • Install the fuel pressure regulator standoffs and bracket as shown below.
  • Reattach the fuel lines, and route the new hose (supplied)  from the return to the bracket bank 1.
  • Reattach the factory fpr vacuum line to the open side of the plastic tee.

Notice also in this pic we have the crossover flap in the lower manifold chamber disconnected.   The lower manifold tends to flex under boost and these stick on higher boost cars, but may be ok on the stage 1 boost levels.    If you do have issues with this, we remove the center plenum and pull the flap out, then reassemble so it can function as normal, just with the flap removed.

Remove the OEM cat or bypass from the heat exchangers and muffler.  replace with turbo / jtube assembly.

While placing the turbo, attach the drainback hose from the turbo to the lower valve cover.

Attach the 3AN line that was routed from the rear of the engine to the open fitting on the turbocharger.  We’ve preassembled all the other hoses for you.   always check the hoses for tightness as movement can occur during shipping.

Reattach the wg hose to the charge pipe as marked.

The assembly should look like this when installed.

If you have a clearance issue with the air filter to the retainer bracket, unbolt the bracket from the manifold and let it float.  All the hoses and connections will keep it from moving around so much, but will allow clearance to the air filter.

Mount the intercooler:

The oem spacer between the heater blower and bank 1 manifold is removed and replace with the provided aluminum spacer to make room for the intercooler post to mount between the blower, spacer and manifold.

The intercooler post will rest closest to the manifold, then the spacer between the post and the heater blower motor.

The intercooler rear bar has a lower mount that clamps through the large diameter hole in the engine mount cross bar, bank 2 (right) side.  Then the intercooler bar attaches to the hex bolt on the inside of the mount.

Replace the air flow meter prior to mounting the intercooler.
