$275.00
Protomotive Billet Coolant bung kit for 996 and 997 Turbo
Protomotive Billet Coolant bung kit for 996 Turbo
What are they for?
Do you have coolant leaks? Buy a billet coolant bung kit for 996 turbo and fix those leaks forever!
With age, the OEM coolant bungs epoxy is softening, causing leaks, or catastrophic failure of the coolant system! Have your coolant bungs pulled, replaced and welded with a set of Protomotive’s Billet coolant bungs. Perfect fit, long life, easy to weld 6061-T6 aluminum.
Can I do this myself?
Sure you can! If you have the tools to remove the engine and pull the castings, then clean, pull and weld the bungs yourself. But not too many of us have this type of facility in our garage. Instead, let us help you! Protomotive offers a service to install these for you here. All systems pressure tested prior to delivery for a leak free install!
Also applicable to gt3-1 and 997.1TT.
What are they made of?
These are CNC machined out of billet 6061-T6 for a long lasting, very strong fix. 6061-T6 is very nice to weld. Use a 4043 rod if you’re doing it yourself.
How can I check for leaks?
With the engine still in the car, you can pressurize the expansion tank cap. The system will only allow about 17psi or 1.2 bar pressure before the pressure relief lifts. With pressure on the expansion tank you’ll be able to find any leaks relatively quickly by following the drips to the highest source.
With the engine out of the car it’s a little more challenging and requires a variety of pressure caps to seal up all the open lines. Once that’s done, you can pressure test the entire engine to check for leaks at the coolant hoses, casting bungs and even head gaskets if they’re having a problem into the coolant passages. Some clients have even experienced flawed castings on their heads creating leaks either directly outside, or into the head stud area.
With the castings all off the engine, it requires an even more specialized set of caps. We have them all here, so make it easy and send them to us
